This is part of an ongoing series on “male-identifying and masculine-of-center people who participate in toxic performances of masculinity at this school” and I feel so bad for the, like, 18 year old kid the interviewer roped into this

“This butch teenager is terrified of behaving like a man and often feels alienated from other women based on how she dresses? how about we foster and legitimize these anxieties for our own selfish purposes”

god this is so depressing

here is the article if you want to let the author know how upsetting & shameful this is. here is my comment:

“This teenager is being honest & vulnerable & you accuse her of perpetuating violence simply by how she dresses, of perpetuating toxic masculinity by being a part of a lesbian subculture with a long history that is entirely removed from men, accusing her of having privilege even when she discusses how she suffers & how she is discriminated against for her gender presentation, equating her with men when she very clearly & emphatically identifies as a woman. I admire Yase so much, but as an interviewer, you should be absolutely ashamed of this. Your behavior is incredibly loaded with bias & prejudice against gender-nonconforming women. These biases have been weaponized against lesbians of all presentations for well over a century & are a key component of homophobia against lesbians. Believe me, you act & sound waaay more like a straight guy than Yase does. You should absolutely re-examine your view of butch women, because this is honestly so shameful & so harmful to gender-nonconforming women who face discrimination & actual violence from straight people every single day. Please look at yourself & the way you approach women who don’t conform to feminine expectations of behavior or presentation, & until you can do that you should really leave insecure butch teenagers alone, because this is directly harmful.”
